How engraved signs are made
A lamacoid is two layers of plastic bonded together: a coloured surface and a contrasting core. The cutter removes the surface wherever there’s a letter, a border or a symbol, and the core shows through.
- No ink. Nothing to fade, smear or wash off with degreaser.
- No face film. Nothing to lift at the corners or peel in the heat.
- Non-conductive. Safe to mount on and around electrical gear.
- Screw it down. Pre-drilled holes, rivets or adhesive, your call.

What is a lamacoid safety sign?
A lamacoid is an engraved two-layer plastic plate, usually phenolic. The engraver cuts through the coloured surface layer to expose the contrasting core, so the text and symbols are part of the material instead of printed on top.
How fast can you make caution signs?
Most orders are engraved and ready the same day once the proof is approved. We are in Burlington, Ontario, with local pickup, and we ship across Canada.
Do you make custom wording?
Every sign is engraved to order. Any signal word, wording, pictogram, size, colour pair and mounting method.
What mounting options are there?
Pre-drilled holes for screws or rivets, adhesive backing, or both. For outdoor, hot or oily locations we recommend mechanical fasteners.
Do you follow ANSI Z535 or CSA Z321?
Our layouts follow the ANSI Z535 signal word format (DANGER, WARNING, CAUTION, NOTICE) and the colour conventions shared by CSA Z321 and ISO 3864. Your site standard and the authority having jurisdiction have the final say on wording and placement.
